Anne Sykes McClanahan

Anne Sykes McClanahan, age 93, went to be with the Lord Friday January 9, 2026. She was born August 22, 1932, in Cleveland, VA to the late A.T. Sykes and Adalene Musick Sykes. She was a 1952 graduate of Lebanon High School. Her first job was with the Russell County School Board and retired from Pittston Coal Company. Anne was a cherished and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Her greatest joy was found in time spent with her family. She will be remembered for her kindness, patience, strength, and willingness to take care of others. 

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her son Charles McClanahan and her brother-in-law Lawrence E. Taylor. 

She is survived by her daughter, Karen McMurray and husband Jack of Gate City, VA; one granddaughter, Mandi Lewis and husband Robbie; one great-grandson, Desmond Sykes Lewis of Gate City, VA; two sisters, Sue S. Taylor of Lebanon, VA, Jeane S. Linkous and husband Don of Abingdon, VA. A special thank you to the caring nursing staff at Bristol Regional Medical Center and NHC of Kingsport, and her very special neighbors Al and Janice Walls; and very special friend, Carol Clifton.

 Funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Wednesday January 14, 2026, in the Combs-Hess Funeral and Cremation Service Chapel with Rev. Austin Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Russell Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm prior to the service. The funeral service will be livestreamed on Facebook.

Pallbearers will be Kenny Booher, Al Walls, Woody McClanahan, Bobby Kindle, Danny Musick and Emmitt Musick.
