Betty Ann Hughes

Castlewood, Virginia- Betty Ann Hughes, 81, went to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, TN. She was born in Castlewood, VA on July 26, 1944, to the late Rosa Bell Musick Couch.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Emmett “Moll” Hughes; brother, Roy Couch and sister, Debra Mullins.

Betty retired from Lear Corporation, Lebanon, VA in 2010. She spent her entire life always taking care of her family and helping others. She attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church of Castlewood, VA, where she had many friends.

Left to cherish her memories are her son, Mickey Hughes and wife Amber of Castlewood, VA; one brother, Bill Couch and wife Shearell of Honaker, VA; five sisters, Zola Hackney of Lebanon, VA, Elsie Wise of Lebanon, VA, Fay Dickenson of Castlewood, VA, Janet Steffey and husband Jay of Castlewood, VA, and Penny Stapleton and husband Duck of Castlewood, VA; three grandchildren Stacy Brown and husband Baird of Bristol, TN, Travis Hughes and wife Kari of Abingdon, VA, and Brantley Hughes of Castlewood, VA; three great-grandchildren Lydia Brown, Matthew Brown, and Addison Hughes; one sister-in-law Tabitha Couch of Castlewood, VA and one brother-in-law John Mullins of Belfast, VA; several nieces and nephews; a host of family and friends.

Funeral service will be conducted at 7 pm on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, in the Combs-Hess Funeral and Cremation Service chapel with Rev. Jeff Kinder and Rev. Wayne Huffman officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 pm until 7 pm. Committal service will be conducted at 2 pm on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, in Temple Hill Memorial Park Chapel of Love Mausoleum in Castlewood. Those wishing to attend should meet at the funeral home by 1:15 to go in procession to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Travis Hughes, Doug Jessee, Branson Jessee, Roger Dickenson, Jr. Junior Steffey, Mike Steffey and Derek Couch.

Honorary pallbearers will be Brantley Hughes, Darryl Blevins, Mike Chafin, Harold Moore, William Sargent and Steve Woods.
