Betty Ruth Campbell Skeen

Lebanon, VA -Betty Ruth Campbell Skeen, age 91, went to be with the Lord on May 27, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on April 8, 1932.

Betty graduated from Lebanon High School and Radford College. Upon her marriage, the couple moved to Dickenson County where she was employed as a business teacher at Ervinton High School. She was especially proud that her 1978 senior class of Ervinton High School dedicated their yearbook to her for her thoughtfulness and helping students better themselves. Betty and her husband returned to Lebanon in 1980 and built a home on the family farm.

She loved each of her students and enjoyed reconnecting with them on Facebook. She also enjoyed reading, quilting, and working in her flower garden. Betty attended Bethel Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was an Assistant Sunday School Secretary for many years.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents: James Arthur Campbell and Eliza Jane Kiser Campbell; sister: Nancy Campbell Hudson; husband of 57 years: Gaines V. Skeen.

She is survived by her two sons: Paul Skeen and wife Virginia and Mark Skeen and wife Jennifer, both of Lebanon; two grandchildren: Jonathan Skeen, of Bristol, Virginia and Alyssa Skeen of Lebanon, Virginia; as well as a dear sister-in-law: Beulah Worley of Dante, Virginia. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Annette Hughes, Diane Patton, and Home Nursing Company/Hospice for their loving care of their mother.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2023 in the Combs-Hess Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Arnold King officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. prior to the service. Entombment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2023 in Ketron Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 a.m.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Dementia Society of America or the American Stroke Association.
