Ernest Wesley Vencill

Lebanon, VA – Ernest Wesley Vencill, 83, went to be with the Lord on January 18, 2023 peacefully in his home. Ernest was born on April 30, 1939 to the late William Alden Vencill and Gladys Fields Vencill.

He was a proud business co-owner of Vencill Corporation and P&J Contracting for over 30 years. After retirement, he made a full time hobby out of farming. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and being outdoors. His favorite title was being called “Papaw” and “Uncle Ern.”

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 53years Phyllis Gibson Vencill, brother: Delmer Vencill and brother and sister-in- law: Billy and Dorothy Vencill.

Survivors include brother: Paul Vencill, Lebanon VA; sister-in-law Jean Vencill, Abingdon VA; two special nephews: Bobby Vencill, Castlewood VA; and Delmer Lynn Vencill and wife Kathy, Lebanon, VA; two nieces: Sherry Jean Everett Saraland AL; Patty and husband Mike Carter, Bristol VA; great-nieces: Eugenia and husband Chris Horne, Richlands VA; Sydney Everett, Saraland AL; great-nephew Bryan Vencill and wife Jessica, Lebanon VA; great-great-nieces and nephews, Macie and Gracie Proffitt, Lebanon VA and Brayden and Julianna Vencill, Lebanon VA; his special furry companion: Buddy; and very special friends: Ancil and Jean Murphy.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 21, 2023 in the Combs-Hess Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Jeff Kinder officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2023. Entombment will follow the service in the Ketron Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.  

Pallbearers include Charles Winebarger, Jimmy Wooten, Bryan Vencill, Joe Trail, Chad "Skull” Smith, Woody McClanahan, Dwayne Proffitt, and Tony Bush.
