Jack Lewis Blankenship

Jack Lewis Blankenship, 98, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, VA.

Jack was a U.S. Army Veteran and served during the Korean War. He retired after thirty-two years of service from the Appalachian Power Company plant in Carbo. He was a loyal member of Green Valley Baptist Church and loved singing in the church choir and with the Green Valley Boys Quartet. Throughout his lifetime, he was an active member of his community, always willing to serve others. Jack enjoyed raising a garden, cutting wood, and spending time with his family. For those who knew him, Jack will be remembered as a man of God, a good storyteller with a sense of humor, and someone you could always rely on when you needed him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kelly Blankenship and Flora Campbell Blankenship; his wife of seventy-five years, Wilma Jean Blankenship whom he loved and cherished deeply; daughter, Janet Blankenship Hawkins; siblings, Lois Blankenship, Gains Blankenship, Phyllis Kennedy, and Jerry Blankenship; grandson, Joshua Hawkins; great-granddaughter, Stella Blankenship; and nephew, Trevor Blankenship.

Survivors include his son, Ron Blankenship and wife Denise; sister, Sally Sutherland; grandchildren, Amanda Richardson and husband Jayson, Travis Blankenship and wife Erika, and Daniel Hawkins; son-in-law, Gene Hawkins; sister-in-law, Sandy Blankenship; and nine great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service will be conducted at 7:30 pm on Friday, August 7, 2026 in the Combs-Hess Funeral and Cremation Service chapel with Pastor Justin Blankenship officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 pm until 7:30 pm at the funeral home. The committal service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at Ketron Memorial Gardens. Those wishing to attend should meet at the cemetery.
