James Robert Chafin

Lebanon, VA – James Robert Chafin, age 79, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 15, 2023. He was born November 10, 1943, the son of the late John T. and Nellie Proffitt Chafin. He was a retired employee of VDOT with over thirty years of service. He loved collecting coins and knives; he was a devoted husband and caregiver to his wife Sandy.

In addition to his parents James was preceded in death by his brother Eugene Chafin.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years Sandy Chafin; daughter: Jamie Chafin; sister: Glenna Kiser and husband Winston; brother: Carter Chafin and wife Sue; brother-in-law: Jimmy Bowles and wife Betty; sisters-in-law: Connie Grizzle and husband Jeff, and Etta Morrison and husband Woody. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday September 19, 2023, at 2:00pm in the Combs - Hess Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Darrell Fletcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Chafin Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00pm prior to the funeral service.

Max Chafin, Jed Chafin, and family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Bowles and Ben Grizzle.
