Jimmie Rodger Smith

Jimmie R. Smith, 94, passed away June 14, 2024, at the Maple Grove Nursing and Rehabilitation Home. Jimmie was born on June 2, 1930. A lifelong resident of the Long Hollow community, Jimmie had made his home at Maple Grove since September 2020, where he received loving care and attention. 

Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents Martha and Eulis Smith. 

Jimmie was also preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Nita Lou Smith, his son, Roger Smith, and his son-in-law, David Castle. He was the last of his siblings. He was a member of Spring City Baptist Church. 

Jimmie was a lifelong farmer, and he was happiest when he was out on the farm. He farmed until he was 83 years old and was not physically able to continue. 

Jimmie will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He was a good friend to many and believed in being a good neighbor to all. 

Jimmie loved his family dearly. His grandsons have many memories of adventures with Pappaw. Jimmie cherished the time he shared with his children and grandchildren. 

Jimmie is survived by his daughter Judy S. Castle, his grandsons Nathan Castle, Matthew Castle (Madison), and Jacob Castle. He is also survived by several special nieces and nephews, as well as special friends Nancy Davis, Larry Nuckles, and Larry Miller. 

Jimmie’s family wants to thank the staff of Maple Grove for the wonderful care given to Jimmie during the last years of his life. Special thanks goes to the nursing staff, who provided excellent, compassionate care to Jimmie. 

Funeral services for Jimmie will be held Wednesday, June 19, at 2:00 pm with the Reverend Jason Wilson officiating. The family will receive visitors beginning at 1:00 pm. All those wishing to attend graveside services will follow in procession to Russell Memorial Cemetery. 

Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
