Jimmy Layne Witt

Jimmy Layne Witt, 62, passed away on March 10, 2026 at his home in Belfast.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Edward Witt and Sarah Katherine Taylor Witt; brother, Douglas Allen Witt and grandparents, Fred B. and Ella Witt and Bert and Bess Taylor.

Jim was a third-generation farmer. He loved to hunt, fish, and spend time outdoors. He enjoyed carpentry, mechanic work, and taking care of his family. His grandchildren were his pride and joy.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Frances Sykes Witt; son and right-hand man, Josh Witt; daughter, Lori Blevins and husband Tyler; sisters, Jacqueline Wallace and husband Tim and Kim Nielsen and husband Robert; brothers, Dave Witt and Tim Witt and wife Jill; grandchildren, Sadie Kate, Raelynn Paige and Hank Wittley. Several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026, in the Combs-Hess Funeral and Cremation Service chapel with Rev. Larry Stinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Witt Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2026, at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Josh Witt, Tyler Blevins, Tim Wallace, John Debord, Daniel O’Quinn, and Jonathan Dye.

Honorary pallbearers will be his VDOT work family.

The family would like to thank Tennessee Cancer Specialists, Caris Hospice, and Cleveland Lifesaving Crew.
