Judy R. Little

April 21, 1948 — November 6, 2025

Castlewood, Va

Judy Little, 77, passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2025.

Judy was a daughter, daughter-in-law, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Over the years, she has cared for all of them.

She was born in Clintwood in 1948. She loved working in the garden, raising hogs, chickens and sewing. She canned for many years helping her mother can everything from tomatoes, chow chow and everything in between. She helped her dad raise, kill and process hogs and chickens every year until he couldn’t any longer. She cared for many of her family including her parents, in-laws, husband and sisters and brother till their passing. She raised and cared for several of her grandchildren as well.

She worked at Grassy Creek Factory for a short while. She loved fishing and camping out in our ole van or station wagon when her children were young. As she got older and the kids were on their own, she still liked to fish and then became interested in puzzle books and old westerns. She loved riding around going places with her son and her dog Gracie. Some say she kept the road hot and she did keep the wheels rolling. She had several children that she thought of her as their grandchildren even though they weren’t biologically hers. They always knew that if she was around, she would for sure bring them candy and she knew that they would want candy. She would go visit them along with her grandchildren and always make sure to have candy on hand for them. They would climb up in the truck and sit and talk to her just the same as if she was. It made her happy to sneak all of the kids with her candy. When she became unable to drive anymore her son, Jeff would take her for drives. If she said go, he would drive all day if she wanted to.

She loved growing flowers; she would have lots of flowerpots lining the porches. She loved to watch the deer come down to eat at her house and loved to watch the birds eating from her birdfeeders.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Jimmy Leon Little Sr., mother, Veinna Mae Mullins and Father, Ira Stanford Mullins, Sr., and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her children, Phyllis McClellan and husband Billy McClellan, Sheila Steele and husband Steven Steele, Kathy Lampkins and husband Darrell Lampkins, Jimmy Little, Jr. and wife Kimberly Burkett Little and Jeffrey Little. She had several grandchildren and several great grandchildren, and several step grandchildren and their siblings who thought of her as their grandmother.

A special thank you to Russell County Hospital, Dante Rescue Squad, Legacy Hospice and Combs-Hess Funeral and Cremation Service, Highlands Ambulance Service and Gracie, her dog that she loved so much.
