Mary Ellen Hess

Abingdon, VA – Mary Ellen Hess, age 78, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 16, 2023. Born January 30, 1945. She was the daughter of the late Hiram Bise and Rassie Chafin Bise. She enjoyed sewing and watching westerns on television and she loved spending time with family, friends and her dog Bella. She attended Valley View Freewill Church in Honaker, VA.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother: Robert Bise, David “Buddy” Bise, Bill Chafin; sisters: Lois Gross, Virginia Ann Hess, Betty Jane Bise and Attie Hicks.

She is survived by her daughters: Norma Bonham and husband David of Bristol, TN; son: Jimmie Fields and fiancé Amanda Thomas of Honaker, VA; two brothers: Jimmie Bise and wife Sylvia of Roanoke, VA and Jackie Bise and wife Brenda of Honaker, VA; step-grandchildren: Brandi Bonham, Brandon Bonham, Baylee Bonham, Raine Owens; step great-grandchildren: Lexi, Christopher, and Kenleigh; along with several nieces and nephews; special friend: Charles Brewer.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2023 in the Combs-Hess Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Roy Lee Wilson and Paul Hess, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow the service in Ketron Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 20, 2023 in the Combs-Hess Funeral Service Chapel.

Serving as pallbearers will be Russell Cox, Donnie Hicks, Gregg “Shoney” Johnson, Charlie Miller, Harvey Miller, Gary Miller, Donald Bailey, and Alan Salyer.
