Niata Jo Dotson

February 3, 1953 — May 30, 2024


Niata Jo Dotson, went to be with her heavenly Father on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at Holston Valley Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Trula Duncan Grizzle; sister, Jewell McReynolds and brother, James Grizzle.

She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed gardening, cooking and watching YouTube.  She was of the Baptist faith and was a cook at the Laurels.

Survivors include her husband of 46 years, William “Tad” Dotson; son, Terry Grizzle; daughters, Kimberly McFarlane and husband Dennis and Anita Herbert and husband Glenn David; sisters, Charlene Witt, Betty Grizzle, Becky Grizzle, Nona Jones and Louise Witt;  brother, Michael Grizzle; grandchildren, Makayla White and husband Alec, McKinzey Mann and Allison Herbert; great-grandchild, Leo White; special sisters-in-law, Sue Shortridge, Phyllis Williams and Sherry Anderson.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.  One special nephew that was like a son, Mitchell McReynolds.

The family would like to express a special thank you to all who loved her.

Funeral service will be conducted on Monday, June 3, 2024 at 1 pm in the Combs-Hess Funeral Service chapel with Rev. Jeff Kinder officiating.  The family will receive friends from 11 am until the time of the service.  Burial will follow the service in Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon.   

Serving the family as pallbearers will be Mitchell McReynolds, Jason Witt, Nick Witt, Rodney Witt, Oscar Avila, Denny McFarlane and Scotty Williams.
