Olegay Smith

Olegay Charles Smith, 71, of Lebanon, VA graduated from this life to her heavenly

home on August 3, 2025. Olegay passed at Maple Grove Care Facility in Lebanon,

VA, after a brief bout with illness.

Born July 4, 1954 in Grundy, VA to the late Earl and Pearl Charles. Olegay

graduated from Grundy Senior High. Shortly thereafter she married, had two

children and moved to Lebanon, Va., where she made her home. Due to

unforeseen circumstances, Olegay started her career late in life. She chose to take

her passion for cleanliness and share it with others in the form of a house

cleaning service where she blessed others with her tidy ways. Olegay loved the

Lord and was an active member of her Church, City on a Hill in Tazewell, Virginia.

Olegay loved people and made many lifelong friends. Olegay enjoyed gardening

and tending her flowers. In addition, she spent her time quilting, reading, baking,

and any manner of crossword and jigsaw puzzles.

In addition to her parents Earl and Pearl Charles, Olegay was preceded in death by

one brother, Jerry Lee Charles and one sister, Judy Fean Charles Lockhart. Those

left to cherish her memory include: her daughter, Kimberly Jernigan of Norfolk,

VA; her son, David Smith of Lebanon, VA; two grandsons Quinton Jernigan United

States Airforce, Wyatt Smith of Lebanon Va. Two brothers: Kermit Charles of

Vansant VA, Arton & Pauline Charles of Bristol, VA. Four Sisters: Geneva & Phillip

Willis, Rising Sun, Maryland, Ruby Looney of Vansant VA, Diane Viers of Vansant

VA, Joetta & Dave Kiser of Vansant VA and a sister in law Diane Charles of Haysi.

Special thanks to City on a Hill, Olegay’s church family, for all the prayers, love,

support and visits. Thank you to Maple Grove and Ultra Hospice for being

excellent caregivers. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, August 23, 2025 at

1pm at City on a Hill, 7606 Pounding Mill Branch Road, Tazewell VA.
