Walter Adolphus Schwitzerlett

Walter Adolphus Schwitzerlett, age 83, of Kingsport, Tennessee, peacefully passed from this life into his Heavenly home on July 15, 2026.

He was born on February 28, 1943, in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, to the late Samuel Burton and Myrtle Irby Schwitzerlett.

On August 21, 1964, Walter married the love of his life, Nancy Schwitzerlett, and together they celebrated sixty years of unwavering love, faith, and devotion. Walter faithfully served as a minister for more than fifty years, dedicating his life to sharing the Gospel and serving others. He was also the beloved owner of the Kitchenette Restaurant in Lebanon, Virginia, where he became well known for his kindness, hard work, and dedication to his community. Walter proudly served his country in the United States Navy.

Walter’s life was a testament to faith, love, service, and family. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, faithful minister, respected businessman, and loyal friend whose life touched countless people.

He is survived by his children, Darrell Schwitzerlett (Laura), Karen Schwitzerlett Ball, and Amy Lemmons (Brad); his grandchildren, Noah Schwitzerlett, Kaitlyn Lemmons, and Paiton Lemmons; his grand dogs, Koda and Lucy; his sister, Dorothy Jacobs; his sisters-in-law, Christine Schwitzerlett and Lottie Shorter; and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his beloved wife of sixty years, Nancy; sisters, Mary Alice Haley, Minnie Frazier, Ester Pickeral, Dolly Pettry; brothers, Oscar Schwitzerlette and Richard Schwitzerlett.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers of Gentiva Hospice and The Waters for the exceptional care, kindness, and support they provided during Walter’s final days.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the Combs-Hess Funeral and Cremation Service Chapel with Charles Lucas officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until 2 pm prior to the service.

Interment will follow at Ketron Memorial Gardens. Military rites will be conducted by the Lebanon VFW Post #9864.

Serving as pallbearers will be Brad Lemmons, Noah Schwitzerlett, T.J. Bayless and Roger Dalton.
